What is the Word of God?

-In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God (John 1:1). He, Jesus, was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him (Jesus), and without Him (Jesus) nothing was made that was made…. And the Word (Jesus) became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth (John 1:1-3, 14).

-Revelation 19:13 says “and He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called the Word of God.” The “He” here is Jesus.

So we see that both Jesus and the Bible are called the “Word of God.”

The Bible, the Word of God is not the book of the month. It’s the Book of the year. It’s the Book of the Ages. It is not just another book.

Where did the Word of God come from?

-All Scripture is given by inspiration of God. (2 Timothy 3:16). “Inspiration” here literally means “God-breathed.” God is the Source of everything that is written in the Bible. He breathed out every word. Only truth comes from God.

-The Word of God is truth.

-Every Word of God is pure (Proverbs 30:5)

-The law of the Lord is perfect (Psalm 19:7).

-For no prophecy was ever borne of human impulse; rather, men carried along by the Holy Spirit spoke from God (2 Peter 1:21).

-The Old Testament prophets prophesied because the Holy Spirit was prophesying through them (1 Peter 1:10).

-Although the Bible had human scribes, it was not written by men but by the Holy Spirit. Man is not the source of the Word of God.

The Quality of the Word of God

-The Word of God is final, authoritative, incorruptible (1 Peter 1:23.), meaning the Word is pure.

-The Word of God has no blemish and no impurities.

-The name of God is above every other name, yet God has magnified His Word above His name (Psalm 138:2).

-The Word of God lives and abides forever (1 Peter 1:23).

-The Word of the Lord endures forever (1 Peter 1:25).

-Heaven and earth will pass away, but the Word of God will not pass away (Matthew 24:35).

-Every Word of God is pure (Proverbs 30:5)

-The law of the Lord is perfect (Psalm 19:7)

-The Word of God is and can be trusted as the true Word of God.

Why is the Word of important to Believers?

-The Word of God is the map that all followers of Jesus Christ should follow most closely.

-The Word of God guides us in our Christian walk. (Psalm 105:103)

-The Word of God is “life into those that find them and health to all their flesh.” (Proverbs 4:22)

-The entrance of the Word of God “giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.” (Psalm 119:130)

-As we obey the Word of God, we become more like Jesus. As followers of Jesus our Lord, that’s our goal.

-Jesus used Scriptures only to resist the devil when he tempted Him after His 40-day fast. We must know the Word of God to do likewise.

-We cannot sensibly call Jesus Lord and reject His view of Scripture?

As followers of Jesus Christ, we must live by the Word of God!
