There is evil and God Himself hates it.
Deuteronomy 16:22. “And never set up sacred pillars for worship, for the LORD your God hates them.” (NLT)
God is love, but He hates sin, and we should too. The original Hebrew word “hate” literally translates to “hate, be hateful.” The Greek translated it as “to detest” The primary word for detest is hatred.
There are 2 sides to all coins. ► If there’s good, there’s evil. ► There is light, and there is darkness. ► If there is love, then there is hate.
The choice you and I must make then is… ► Love all that’s right and detest what’s wrong ► Love sin and hate what is righteous.
There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to Him.
16 There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: 17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, 18 a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, 19 a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.
The 7 things God hates are:
4. A heart that devises wicked plans
5. Feet that make haste to run to evil
6. A false witness who breathes out lies
7. One who sows discord among brothers
► The prideful exalt themselves above God. ► The prideful idolize themselves. ► Lucifer idolized himself when, in pride, he sinned against God (Isaiah 14:13-14).
► It was because of pride that the Satan was evicted from heaven.
► Lying: To speak falsely or utter untruth knowingly, with the intent to deceive. Dishonesty is lying. ► David had sex with his neighbor’s wife, his most loyal military officer. ► David tried to cover that up and ultimately had that man killed? ► That dishonesty eventually broke David’s spirit and may have been one of his biggest regrets that led him to pray and confess as he did in the 51st Psalm.
► White lying is lying and God hates it.
► White lie: A harmless or trivial lie, especially one told to avoid hurting someone's feelings. ► Exaggeration is lying and God hates it.
Ephesians 4:25. Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another.
We must pray for deliverance from a lying tongue.
Psalm 120:2. Deliver me, O Lord, from lying lips, from a deceitful tongue.
3. HANDS THAT SHED INNOCENT BLOOD ► The intentional, violent spilling of innocent blood is an abomination to God. ► Cain killed Abel – shed his innocent blood - and God hated it (Genesis 4:1-15).
1 John 3:11-12. 11 For this is the message that you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. 12 We should not be like Cain, who was of the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own deeds were evil and his brother's righteous.
Jesus teaches that hate is murder (Hate = Murder).
1 John 3:15. Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.
What is hate?
► Intense hostility and aversion (dislike) usually deriving from fear, anger, or sense of injury. ► Extreme dislike.
► If we hate anyone, then in God’s sight we are a murderer, and God hates murderers.
4. A HEART THAT DEVISES WICKED PLANS ► Vicious scheming. ► Vicious: deliberately cruel or violent.
What is the meaning of deceitful? ► To mislead others ► Duplicitous (Tricky) ► False ► Fraudulent ► Hypocritical
We must ask God to cleanse our heart so that we do not devise wicked plans.
Matthew 15:19. For from the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, all sexual immorality, theft, lying, and slander.
Jeremiah 17:19. The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? To
5. FEET THAT MAKE HASTE TO RUN TO EVIL ► Eager to do o cause mischief. ► Run quickly to sin. ► Feet that run to do mischief! ► Don’t always flee from sin as quickly as you should. ► Attracted to wrongdoing.
Our feet should run to preach the gospel of peace.
Romans 10:15. And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!
6. A FALSE WITNESS WHO BREATHES OUT LIES ► This goes beyond the lies of “a lying tongue.” ► This pertains to someone who takes an oath and then intentionally spreads lies and misinformation. ► This can be someone on the witness stand of a courtroom, but it can also include those who misrepresent God.
► A false witness can also be a slanderer.
► A slanderer: A false or true spoken statement with the intent to damage to a person's reputation. ► Slanderer: Often works in the dark, and generally under the mask of truthfulness and love.”
Ephesians 4:29. You must let no unwholesome word come out of your mouth, but only what is beneficial for the building up of the one in need, that it would give grace to those who hear.
Ephesians 4:32. Instead, be kind to one another, compassionate, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ also forgave you.
7.ONE WHO SOWS DISCORD AMONG BROTHERS ► The person who stirs up strife among relatives and within the fellowship of the church, causing misery where the nurturing of a family should be. ► “tale bearing, untrue stories, half-truths, subtle insinuations, produces the disruption of friendships and the break-up of fellowship…”
HOW CAN WE BE RELEASED FROM THESE THINGS WHICH GOD HATES AND FILLED WITH THOSE THINGS WHICH HE LOVES? ► Be honest with ourselves and with God. ► Let the searchlight of His Word and of the Holy Spirit come into our hearts and reveal the things which displease Him.
► We must admit our wrong, confess our sin and forsake that which grieves the Lord
2 Corinthians 7:1. Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
► We must seek and receive the cleansing of Christ’s precious blood.
1 John 1:7. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
► We must acknowledge our weaknesses and rely on the power of Christ.
2 Corinthians 12:9. But he said to me, “My grace is enough for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” So then, I will boast most gladly about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may reside in me.
